Cubitt Studios, Islington, London
Ross Taylor showed 3 works of painting and drawing; Killing the Leader, a diptych of 2 large panels in yellow and red; Night Water, a hanging paper collage next to framed drawing; and Adam's House, a small framed drawing on paper. The conversation began with a discussion of the domestic scale of the drawings, and the “wallpaper" aesthetic of the paintings. The shapes in the abstract paintings reminded the audience of various items from tassels to flower heads, with links made to the tactile and visceral nature of layers of paint. A “measured rawness" was identified in the visual pleasure of the painted surfaces.
James Ferris presented a web-based work, which operates as a website for his myriad works created in the past decade. The website was discussed as a work of art in its own right, and as a more traditional showcase of an “artists' website".
